OUR WALKS

East West Connection

East-West Connection Walk

(Tales of Sultans, Chinese Kapitans, Colonial Times)

The East–West Connection walk offers a fascinating insight into the origins of Kuala Lumpur. The title symbolically reflects the relationship and coexistence of the migrant communities that settled along the eastern and western banks of the two rivers that gave birth to the city.

Following the historic riverbanks, the walk traces the city’s beginnings through the northern section of KL’s Chinatown and the colonial precinct. Along the way, it reveals stories of early trade, urban growth, and the changing character of the city across different periods of history.

The legacies of pioneering settlers and British colonial administrators remain visible in the streets and buildings. You’ll discover interesting colonial-era buildings and pre-war shophouses showcasing diverse architectural styles, while learning about the restoration efforts and placemaking initiatives that have helped preserve and revitalise these historic spaces for future generations.
